Reykjavik, Iceland

December 20, 2012

I arrived here this morning at 7am, and after 45min on the bus from Keflavik airport to Reykjavik Bus Terminal, and a brief walk to the hotel, I got checked in at Hotel Reykjavik Centrum. They were kind enough to let me get a room even though I was way early for the official check in time.

I walked around a bit to find a place to consume some breakfast, and the choice fell on the 'Paris Cafe' (when in Rome :). I saw a couple eating a stack of bacon and eggs and it just looked too tempting. I promised myself I would go for authentic Icelandic for dinner instead.

I went back to get a short nap, and ventured out on a long walk; first to Hallgrimskirken. A pretty amazing piece of architecture, but I mostly went because I could ride the elevator to the top and check out the view, which was pretty nice. The bell all of a sudden started ringing and that scared the crap out of me.

Next up was the Perlan water tanks. Also a unique architectural structure. There's a Saga Museum with some wax figures and some story telling about the first Viking settlers on island. Pretty boring. Anyways the Vikings came around 970AD.

A trip to Reykjavik wouldn't be complete without a visit to the penis museum, I couldn't find the damn place. I asked someone for directions. That felt a little awkard.
